Bayan M. Jaber
Attorney
Experience
Bayan Jaber is an Associate Attorney at Pitt McGehee Palmer Bonanni & Rivers. Throughout her time at the firm, Bayan has worked across employment and civil rights cases that seek to protect the rights of individuals in the workplace and in their communities. Most recently, Bayan has participated in critical cases, including the pursuit of justice for survivors in the USA Gymnastics civil case and fighting for the rights of Muslim employees to have their religious customs and practices accommodated in the workplace. A dedicated and tireless activist, Bayan has worked with organizations such as the United Way and ACLU to fight for social justice from both a policy and legal perspective.
Bayan’s current practice areas include employment law, civil rights retaliation and discrimination, whistleblower protection, personal injury and wrongful death cases. Recent highlights include:
Bayan was instrumental in the administration of a $20 million settlement in Bauserman v. State of Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency, a class action lawsuit for more than 3,000 Michiganders who were falsely accused of unemployment fraud between 2013 and 2015.
Bayan assisted in a case challenging vehicle pursuit policy of the Michigan State Police which utilized a ground-breaking theory of race discrimination that recently resulted in a $7.5 million settlement. This was the first case against the Michigan State Police on behalf of victims of car crashes caused by police pursuits, one of which involved a fatality and lifelong injuries to others. The case focused on the disproportionate impact these policies had on African American communities.
Bayan played a key role in settling a case before it was filed against a major automotive company on behalf of residents in Flat Rock, Michigan after gas leaked from an assembly plant into the city's sanitary sewer system in 2021. She made sure residents were compensated fairly after needing to evacuate their homes due to toxic exposure affecting air quality.
A proud daughter of Arab immigrants who found a home in Dearborn, Michigan, Bayan is inspired by the bravery and hard work of those who came before her.
