Michael Pitt along with his wife Peggy, Cary McGehee and Stuart Dowty was a co-founder of the Firm in 1992. In addition to representing 100s of individuals in their disputes with employers, government officials, corporations or insurance companies, Michael has been designated as Class Counsel in major cases involving employment rights, sexual abuse, governmental abuse and prisoner rights.

Michael, who has been practicing law since 1974, is proud to call himself a trial lawyer, having tried to completion more than 60 cases in court or through arbitration.

He is a past President of the Michigan Association for Justice (MAJ) and Public Justice. He has served on the Executive Boards of MAJ, Public Justice, Wayne State University Law School Board of Visitors, a Trustee of the State Bar of Michigan Foundation, JARC and other community-based organizations.

Michael has been recognized by his peers with the State Bar of Michigan’s Champion of Justice Award, MAJ’s Champion of Justice Award, State Bar of Michigan’s Labor and Employment Section Service Award, Trial Lawyer of the Year Award from Public Justice and the National Lawyer’s Guild, induction into the Hall of Fame for Wayne State Law School and Michigan Lawyer’s Weekly and the Leonard Grossman Award from the Sugar Center for Economic Justice. Michael has also been recognized in all 31 editions of The Best Lawyers in America. He is a fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.

Michael has served as an arbitrator, mediator, case evaluator and expert witness in legal malpractice cases. He has been a strong proponent of pro bono work as demonstrated by his multiple cases filed on behalf of the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan, Michigan Democratic Party and on behalf of an incarcerated individual who was imprisoned as a child for life without the possibility of parole and released after more than 30 years behind bars.

In addition to his duties as Co-Class Counsel on the Flint Water litigation pending since 2015, Michael is representing the family of an Oxford High School student tragically murdered at school in late 2021, the family of 3 year old killed when her home exploded because of a gas leak, co-counsel with Firm members representing an autistic child abused at school, the family of Flint residents killed and catastrophically injured by the racist vehicle pursuit policies of the Michigan State Police and a myriad of single-plaintiff employment discrimination and civil rights cases currently in active litigation.
