Our partners Civil Rights Corps and Public Justice announce new “Right 2 Hug” website

We all have the right to hug our family; however, every year millions of children and family members can’t.

Civil Rights Corps, Public Justice, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, and Pitt McGehee Palmer Bonanni & Rivers are working together to end visitation bans that are preventing incarcerated individuals from seeing their loved ones in person.

Jails across the United States have stopped allowing children to visit their parents, forcing families to pay hundreds of millions of dollars to companies for expensive phone and video calls. These privately-owned companies have monopolized family time and given jails an incentive to cut off free human contact from the incarcerated population.

This act is dehumanizing and bars families from keeping close-knit connections, all due to corporate greed.

Thanks to Civil Rights Corps and Public Justice, the new Right 2 Hug website has been created, a site that provides more information on the issue, updates on current lawsuits, and contact sheets in case you or someone you know has also had this right taken away.

Pitt McGhee Palmer Bonanni & Rivers is proud to share this website and values its partnership with these incredible non-profits dedicated to critical social justice issues.

The campaign was also recently featured in The New Yorker, which includes personal stories from families experiencing this devasting separation. We are pleased to see these families' stories being shared and hope this coverage will continue to lead us down the path of justice.
