Seeking Justice: Pitt, McGehee, Palmer, Bonanni, & Rivers Stands with Flint Residents

May 2, 2024 - As Flint, Michigan, marks the grim 10th anniversary of its water poisoning crisis, residents continue their battle for justice, urging President Joe Biden to recognize the federal government’s role in the disaster in a letter penned by civilian representatives Jan Burgess, Rhonda Kelso, and Melissa Mays.

Everyone at Pitt, McGehee, Palmer, Bonanni, & Rivers stands by our clients, the victims who are advocating for acknowledgment and compensation for the immense suffering caused by such catastrophic governmental negligence.

The people of Flint deserve accountability from the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), which ignored their warnings and failed to act promptly in resolving the water crisis. The letter to Biden emphasizes the gravity of the EPA’s inaction: “Your administration publicly expressed dismay and shock about what was going on in our city, and yet, to this date, the federal government is the only entity that refuses to take any responsibility for its failures.”

Flint’s tragedy is multifaceted, spanning from the failure to treat water properly to the disregard for victims’ rights in the lack of a swift remedy. Pitt, McGehee, Palmer, Bonanni, & Rivers remain committed to fighting for the rights of those affected. Attorney Cary McGehee added:

“Ten years ago this week, the people of Flint suffered an immeasurable injustice at the hands of the city, state, and federal institutions that caused and allowed its water crisis. The EPA is the only culpable party yet to acknowledge responsibility for the harm it caused through its negligence and remediate the damages caused to the Flint community. Our legal team stand firmly behind our clients’ call for President Biden to help shepherd a resolution and finally allow the city to move forward and heal from the harm done to them by their government’s failure to ensure that their water was safe to drink and to warn them when it was not.”

The steadfast determination of the People of Flint, despite 10-years of the EPA dodging accountability, stands as a beacon of hope for anyone seeking justice in the face of adversity.
