Pitt McGehee Palmer Bonanni & Rivers Supports Survivors Harmed by Detroit-Area Physician Dr. Oumair Aejaz

Detroit-area physician Dr. Oumair Aejaz was recently charged with 10 felony counts, including one count of child sexually abusive activity, one count of using a computer to create and or reproduce child sexual abuse material, two counts of capturing or recording children while nude, two counts of capturing or recording women while nude, and four counts of using a computer to commit a crime. As investigations continue, this may only be the tip of the iceberg of Aejaz’s predatory behavior.

Aejaz's arrest came after a mother discovered him filming her and her children at a swimming school. Allegedly, Aejaz placed hidden cameras throughout several hospitals and locations, including:

  • Henry Ford Macomb Hospital (Clinton Township)

  • Ascension Genesys Hospital (Grand Blanc Township)

  • Detroit Medical Center Sinai-Grace Hospital

  • Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital

  • Goldfish Swim School

These cameras were hidden in various locations such as bathrooms, hospital rooms, changing rooms, closets, and bedrooms, dating back as early as 2018. Investigators have warned that there could be hundreds of victims, as deputies have confiscated six computers, four cellphones, and 15 external storage devices, one of which contains 13,000 videos. In some videos where victims have yet to be identified, Aejaz is allegedly seen sexually assaulting women lying unconscious in hospital beds.

Investigations are currently underway to determine whether Dr. Aejaz’s employers knew or reasonably should have known of his sexually abusive practices and whether they failed to properly investigate complaints against him. Survivors of Dr. Aejaz may have the right to file injury claims and lawsuits, even if no criminal conviction is ever secured by the state. It is expected that hundreds of people will come forward soon to demand justice and fair compensation in cases filed against him.

Many are drawing parallels to the landmark USA Gymnastics and Larry Nassar case, in which Pitt McGehee Palmer Bonanni & Rivers played a crucial role. Partner Megan Bonanni was among the select group of attorneys that represented hundreds of victims of Nassar and served as counsel for the Survivors Committee in the USA Gymnastics Bankruptcy.
